Used in the days of the Civil War, the U.S. Volcanic Repeating Pistol was definitely a step up from the percussion pistol. Early cartridge firing system (1865) easily loaded by pulling spring trigger forward. Antiqued brass finish with wood grips. Length: 15", Weight: 2.5 lbs
This relatively obscure gun was a lever-action pistol designed for target shooting. At the time, all other pistols were black powder. This version of the repeating pistol was due to a joint venture between Horace Smith and Daniel Wesson and led to the partnership of Smith and Wesson a year later in 1854, along with the creation of the patented .22 rimfire metallic cartridge. One of the world's largest gun companies and the world's most popular cartridge are here because of this obscure pistol. It was manufactured starting in 1853 in .22RF, and .31 and .41 caliber. The Volcanic Repeating Pistols were unpopular because of their unreliability.
