The Standard U.S. issued sidearm was adopted by the Army on March 29, 1911, when it was designated Model of 1911 and later changed to Model 1911 in 1917. Finally the firearm was designated as the M1911 in the mid-1920s. The Colt Pistol was delivered to the armed forces in World War I and saw service in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. This M1911 replica is a zinc die-cast all metal with compostie grips. The has moving parts including a moving slide, a safety that can be switched on and off, a trigger that pulls, and a removeable magazine. The Pistol itself has the following on the slide "US ARMED FORCES AUTOMATIC PISTOL, MODEL OF 1911A1 X5898 CALIBER .45". This replica is mounted onto a solid dark wood frame with a brass identification plate. The brass identification plate reads: "M1911 U.S. GOVERNMENT .45 CALIBER AUTOMATIC, STANDARD SIDEARM OF THE U.S. FORCES, WORLD WAR I, WORLD WAR II, KOREA, VIETNAM".
